Recent Adventure to Zurich:
One local asked, "where are you from?"
"Singapore" I replied.
Guess what he says next?
"Singapore's dangerous"
...
...
...
"Once the cigarette drop, FINE!"
I'm pretty amazed by what he said. Normally, tourists' impression of Singapore is bout the beautiful green city. Nice weather. And, so on.. However, this man's view of Singapore is 'dangerous'.
After he has mentioned it, I recalled of an incidence.
R was smoking outside the MRT station. Halfway through, a friend of R came out of the MRT station and hit R on the back. As R was not holding the cigarette tightly, the cigarette fell into the drain below him.
A officer was dressed in home clothes standing near the area. He then came over to R to charge/ fine him of littering cigarette. It is fair for R?
R didnt litter on purpose. And, if the cigarette has drop on the floor, he would have picked it up. R was unable to retrieve the cigarette from the drain, unless he pry open the drain. And even so, by then the cigarette would have been wash down by the drain water.
In this case, it is fair for R to be fined? Do the officer have to fine R under such circumstances? Put it in this way, if the officer is the one in R's shoes. Is the officer going to pry open the drain and retrieve the cigarette?
I wonder.
